More than 300 skywatchers joined us to watch and celebrate the total eclipse in South Carolina at historic and scenic Hopsewee Plantation, where we were fortunate enough to be located quite close to the center of the path of the solar eclipse's totality.
Guests enjoyed dancing to live music provided by area band Coastal Reaction along with plantation tours, classes with sweetgrass basketweaver Vera Manigault, and drinks and a full lunch buffet with Lowcountry favorites from our River Oak Cottage Tearoom.
“The people are amazing, friendly. Awesome day watching the solar eclipse. A must-see.”
“Beautiful landscape under which to view the eclipse.”
In addition to this event, which sold out in a matter of days, we hosted an adjoining viewing opportunity, Tailgating on the Santee, as a fundraiser for SODA (Stop Offshore Drilling in the Atlantic). Around $3000 of the proceeds was given to the environmental group, its largest donation to date.
We thank the its members who gave their time at the event, as well as our staff and volunteers who made Moon Shadow over Hopsewee—the biggest gathering we’ve had so far–a seamless success.
Celebrate the day yourself by checking out our photo gallery below and treating yourself to a souvenir Moon Shadow T-shirts (while supplies last).
